Bronx, NY -- The Dominica Association of Seventh-day Adventists in the U.S. (DASUS) will hold its Annual Dominica Day Church Service on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Co-op City Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1010 Baychester Avenue, Bronx, New York. The event will commemorate the 41st Anniversary of Dominica’s Independence under the theme “Saluting Resilience and Rejuvenation … Two Years On”.

Pastor Henry Luke, a dynamic Seventh-day Adventist minister who serves as a Chaplain and Mental Health Consultant with the United States Army, will be the featured speaker.   Pastor Luke, who is originally from St. Joseph, attended the Dominica Grammar School.  He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in theology and social work from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama.  He also earned a Master of Divinity from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.

The afternoon program will feature a conversation and book signing with Dominican author, nurse practitioner, college professor, and international humanitarian Arlette Paul, DNP.  Dr. Paul will draw from her recent memoir, The Innocent Struggle, to share how her faith and courage took her from humble beginnings to the peak of her profession.

The Dominica Day celebration will begin at 9:15 a.m. with Sabbath School. Divine Worship, the main worship session, starts at 11:00 a.m., followed by a fellowship lunch.  The morning offering will support the restoration of individual SDA  churches in Dominica.  The afternoon program is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.   The celebration will end with a short cultural reception to mark DASUS’ 15th Anniversary.  Dominica’s Ambassador and Consul General have been invited to bring Independence Day greetings. Local legislators, community leaders, and clergy were also invited.

“In addition to a vibrant message from Pastor Luke, there will be inspirational music and a joyous celebration of our faith and heritage,” said DASUS president Dr. Beryl R. Williams.  “We invite our fellow Dominicans of all faiths to join us as we have a wonderful time in the Lord!”
